Who will pay?
Many Cambridgians are currently voicing strong opposition towards the Greater Cambridge Partnership’s (GCP) proposal to introduce a congestion charge in Cambridge ranging from £5-50 for all motor vehicles (motorcycles, cars, vans, lorries). As you may be aware, these charges will have a huge impact on all businesses and residents who live and work in Cambridge, making it increasingly difficult for employers to find and retain employees. Further, the detrimental consequences this will have on deliveries and footfall for retail outlets such as John Lewis is sure to be a concern. There has been a widespread outcry from the likes of the GMB union, small business owners, including Maddingly Mulch, Chesterton Carpets, Ely Skip Hire, and organisations such as Mill Road Traders. The list is extensive and growing.
